According to tradition established by Taiwanese manufacturers, MediaTek released data on sales in the past month. The chipmaker's revenue in October 2017 was about 21 billion Taiwan dollars (696.2 billion US dollars), which was the worst result for the last three months. Compared to September, sales fell by 5.3%, and in annual terms - by almost 12%.
The total MediaTek indicator since the beginning of 2017 also lags significantly behind the level of 2016: the consolidated revenue in January-October amounted to 198.83 billion Taiwan dollars, which is almost 14% less than a year ago.
Earlier, the company summed up the results of the third quarter of 2017 and reported a significant drop in net profit and revenue. The chip maker's revenue amounted to 5.06 billion Taiwan dollars (167.72 million US dollars), which is 35.4% less than the result of a year ago, and sales in the same period decreased by 18.8%, to 63.6 billion Taiwan dollars 2.1 billion American).
In the final quarter MediaTek expects revenue in the range of 59.2 billion to 64.3 billion Taiwan dollars, which corresponds to an annual drop of 6.3% -13.7%.
Market observers attribute a downward trend to the price war unleashed by Qualcomm, MediaTek's main competitor in the mobile chip market. However, experts are optimistic about the prospects of the Taiwanese vendor and predict the restoration of its market and financial performance in 2018.
