Israeli company Corephotonics, which develops and produces optical systems for mobile cameras, accused Apple of violating four patents. In the documents filed in court, mention the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus, but the iPhone X in the list is missing (at the time of filing the lawsuit, it has not yet appeared on sale).

Corephotonics was founded in 2012, the company positions itself as a "pioneer in developing technologies for dual cameras for mobile devices". The patents in question were registered between 2013 and 2016. In early 2017, the name Corephotonics was heard at the MWC 2017 exhibition, where the Chinese company Oppo introduced a technology that allows using a 5x optical zoom in smartphone photomodules (without moving elements).

In a lawsuit, Corephotonics claims that two models of the iPhone use the company's patented lens placement design, the optical zoom method, and an image combining algorithm that improves image quality.

Corephotonics previously contacted Apple in an attempt to resolve the issue in a pre-trial order. However, despite the willingness to make contact and promising promises, the American corporation did not take any further steps.

As noted by MacRumors, in 2015, Apple acquired another Israeli company - LinX, which also specializes in mobile cameras.
