Intel Corporation together with partners plans to hold the largest scale demonstration of the fifth generation mobile network (5G) capabilities at the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics..

Last summer, Intel and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the signing of a long-term technology partnership agreement. One of the directions of work is precisely the development of 5G-systems.

As it is now reported, the world's largest demonstration segment of the 5G network will be launched at the Winter Olympics in South Korean Pyeongchang. The project involves the operator KT.

By the beginning of the sports competitions, which will start in February, KT will build the first large-scale 5G network, and Intel will provide its technological solutions. 5G features will be demonstrated on the territory of Hwanghai Olympic Park, Seoul Gwanghwamun Square and other Olympic venues in South Korea.

To do this, it is planned to use the resources of the test platform Intel 5G Mobile Trial Platform and networked 5G-technologies Intel, including technology FlexRAN.
