The US Supreme Court rejected the petition of Kim Dotkom and his Megaupload colleagues about the return of tens of millions of dollars confiscated during searches in 2012. The Supreme Court was the last instance where Dotcom could apply to the US, so now, along with his lawyers, the businessman will go to the courts of New Zealand and Hong Kong, where most of the confiscated assets are held.
Law enforcement officers of the United States and New Zealand seized $ 67 million in cash and in the form of another property during the raid in 2012. Recall that searches in the house of Dotcom were conducted in connection with charges against him of money laundering and copyright infringement.
The US authorities also initiated a separate civil action with a petition to recognize bank accounts, cars and other confiscated property during searches, and the court granted him.
Then Dotkom tried to appeal the decision in the Appeals Court of the fourth US district, but again lost. It remained only to file a petition with the US Supreme Court, but here Dotcom failed.
On Monday, October 2, the US Supreme Court rejected the motion. However, refusal to consider a petition does not at all mean for Dotkom and his colleagues in Megaupload the final loss of confiscated assets. Most of them are now in New Zealand and Hong Kong, and the entrepreneur intends to try his luck there.
