Russia became the second Internet provider for North Korea after China. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the data of the company FireEye, specializing in cyber security.

A new line of Internet access for North Koreans was provided by RZhD's "daughter" - the company "Transtelecom". Prior to this, North Korea's network was connected to the network only through China China United Network Communications Ltd.

According to technical director of FireEye Bruce Bolanda, the access line from Russia will reduce the risk that, due to US sanctions, North Korean users will be left without the Internet. In addition, the company believes that this will provide Russia with an opportunity to monitor traffic from the DPRK in order to "better understand what North Korea intends to do".

In "Transtelecom" the agency refused to comment on the information on the phone, it was not possible to get an operative comment via e-mail.
