Over the past two months, the popular Dutch currency exchange LiteBit. eu twice fell victim to hacker attacks. According to the administration of the site, the users' crypto currency is safe, but the attackers managed to gain access to personal data of customers.

In the course of both incidents, not a single bitcoin or alternative crypto currency was stolen, however, cybercriminals managed to obtain personal data of users. In particular, e-mails, password hashes, international bank account numbers (IBAN), phone numbers and home addresses of exchange customers were stolen.

The first leak occurred on August 5, 2017. After the site administration discovered suspicious activity on one of its servers, the affected customers were sent letters with the appropriate warning.

According to the administration, the cause of the leak was identified and eliminated.

The second leak occurred six weeks later, on September 12. The hackers once again managed to access the personal data of users, but their funds remained untouched. This time, attackers could access the site server, attacking one of the "suppliers" LiteBit.

The management of the crypto exchange informed about the incident of the Netherlands police and the Personal Data Protection Service (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, AP).
