Leadership of Samsung Display in the field of OLED-panels for smartphones contributes to the record financial performance of the company, reports The Korea Herald.
In the second quarter of 2017, Samsung Display recorded operating profit of 1.7 trillion won (1.4 billion US dollars), which was the highest result among competing vendors.
According to forecasts of Meritz Securities analysts, in the second half of 2017, Samsung Display's operating profit will reach 3.1 trillion won (2.73 billion dollars), which will allow the company to increase its lead over the nearest rival, whose operating profit in the specified period is expected to reach 998 billion won (879 million dollars).
Apparently, by "closest rival" is meant compatriot LG Display.
Analysts are optimistic about the prospects for Samsung Display, given the high demand for OLED panels for smartphones and flexible OLED displays.
According to IHS Markit, Samsung Display currently dominates the global market for flexible OLED screens with a share of 94.6%. It is expected that the global revenue from these products in 2017 will be $ 9.2 billion, and in 2020 it will more than double and reach $ 20.9 billion.
