The Internet is gaining popularity virus, which installs on computers a program for hidden mining - extraction of crypto currency.
Experts estimated that the "underground" mining network brings criminals to 30 thousand dollars a month. Typically, through other people's computers generate crypto currency Monero (XMR) and Zcash.
Several large botnets were discovered in Kaspersky Lab. Each of them includes thousands of infected computers. Malicious software falls on them, usually through adware installers. The user usually downloads them on his own, from a file sharing service under the guise of free software or keys to activate licensed products.
The program-miners are fixed in the system and automatically run when the computer is turned on.
Also, a virus can penetrate through vulnerabilities in user software.
In particular, through the gap EternalBlue, it gets to the server, and this is more advantageous for mining.
The process of mining in itself is not considered illegal. It is possible for the user himself to obtain crypto-currencies on his computer. That's why, as Kaspersky Lab stresses, it's rather difficult to fix the process of hidden mining.
Meanwhile, because of it, business processes may suffer, since the processing speed of infected computers and servers is significantly reduced.
