World revenue from the sale of DRAM-memory modules in 2016 decreased by about 12% to $ 6.9 billion compared to 7.9 billion a year earlier, according to DRAMeXchange, an analytical division of the research company TrendForce. Among the main reasons for the recession experts call the decline in prices for computer DRAM-memory and the preservation of a negative trend in the global PC market.
As before, the industry was dominated by several large players, the study notes.. According to DRAMeXchange, the top five manufacturers of DRAM-modules accounted for 87% of the global sales of this product, and experts valued the contribution of vendors from the top-10 in 93%.
Following the results of 2016, the rating of leading manufacturers of DRAM-modules was again headed by Kingston Technology. Although DRAM-memory for PC last year fell by more than 30% in comparison with 2015, the American vendor registered only a slight decrease in revenue from sales of DRAM-modules - by 6.7%, to 5.04 billion US dollars. Despite this, the market share of Kingston increased to 72.55%, although a year earlier the figure was at 68.36%.
On the second place, having risen from the third line, there was one more company from the USA - SMART Modular Technologies. Her contribution to total sales of DRAM-modules amounted to $ 275 million or 3.96% of the total indicator.
Ramaxel, the largest manufacturer of DRAM-modules from China, closed the top three, with sales of $ 274 million and a share of 3.95%.
The Taiwanese Adata was one of the few vendors with positive dynamics: its revenue increased by 6.14%, to $ 232 million, and the share increased from 2.77% to 3.35%. Closed the top five representative of China Tigo with the results of 230 million dollars and 3.31%.
As in 2015, outside the top five were companies such as Transcend Information, MA Labs, Apacer Technology, Team Group and Corsair Memory. Their contribution to revenue ranged from 2.3% to 0.84%, experts estimated.
