Scientists at Edinburgh University have invented a camera that can "see" through the human body. The device was developed to help doctors track endoscopes - instruments designed for examination of internal organs.

"The ability to see the location of a medical device is critical during many procedures, because we are moving towards the treatment of diseases in minimally invasive ways," said Kev Dalival, a professor at the University of Edinburgh.

Previously, it was difficult for physicians to determine the exact location of the endoscope in the patient's body without resorting to X-rays or other expensive methods. However, now this problem is solved - the new camera can track the light source through 20 cm of tissue under normal conditions. Thanks to thousands of integrated photodetectors inside the camera, the device is able to distinguish between tiny particles of light passing through human tissue. This is reported by the newspaper "Day".
