The project of modular smartphones Project Ara from Motorola, and then Google, was incredibly promising. The user could purchase a device assembled to meet their needs, and then from year to year, as necessary, update the processor, camera and other components, rather than buying a new device. Unfortunately many, Project Ara was closed, but this idea was embodied in reality by another company - Fairphone.
At the core of Smartphone smartphones is the idea of ??modularity. Each component of the smartphone user can replace himself without contacting a service center. Until recently, there was no point in this, but at the IFA 2017 in Berlin Fairphone company announced new camera modules for the second generation Fairphone.
The original Fairphone 2 was shipped with an 8 megapixel main and 2 megapixel front cameras. Now the manufacturer offers on its website updated modules for 12 and 5 Mp respectively.
They can be purchased both individually and together, receiving a small discount.
Replacement of cameras in Fairphone 2 is carried out in three simple steps:.
- remove the back cover and remove the battery;.
- unscrew the screws holding the camera modules and remove them;.
-Install new modules and assemble the smartphone back.
The only drawback of Fairphone 2 are quite mediocre characteristics. Perhaps in the future the company will fix this with the help of new modules.
