Thousands of files with summaries and applications for employment of military and intelligence officers of the United States were publicly available in the Amazon cloud storage. This is written by The Hill on Saturday, September 2.
The addresses and contact details of both current employees and a number of veterans of intelligence services, as well as one policeman and UN staff member working in the Middle East, could be downloaded openly due to an error in the data protection system.
The problem was discovered by the security specialist of the security firm Upguard, Creek Vickery in July. "I hope we were the only ones who found them," he told the publication.
To remove personal information from free access was possible only at the end of August because of the problem of establishing the source of the leak. As it turned out, the summaries and statements were collected for the private security company TigerSwan by the recruiting company TalentPen. Amazon services were used for data transmission.
However, TigerSwan stressed that the transfer of information was carried out using encryption in February. After that, TalentPen was supposed to delete the files.
