Barracuda security researchers warn of more frequent hacker attacks on products included in the Office 365 software suite.

Attack, as a rule, begins with a phishing scam, in which users are invited to enter the e-mail service. Link redirects the victim to a fake login page in Office 365. The data entered by the victim is stored by intruders and is used to configure the rules for forwarding e-mail on the victim's account. Thus, all received emails are forwarded to the mailbox of the attackers.

The information received from e-mail can help attackers to learn the user's communication features, both inside the organization and outside it, and use them to form and send phishing emails to target objects.

In their article, researchers at Baracuda recommend that companies conduct cyberthreat prevention through regular staff information, the timely introduction of protection against phishing and fraud, and the introduction of multi-factor authentication for corporate accounts.

Office 365 is a software package from Microsoft for corporate clients. The number of users working with products from Microsoft on the model SaaS by the end of this year will overcome the mark of 120 million subscribers.
