Police Department of New York was in an uncomfortable situation. In 2014 with the pomp it was announced a massive purchase of Nokia smartphones running Windows Phone, and soon the order's guards received Lumia 830 and Lumia 640XL. The project was implemented within the "mobile initiative", which was estimated at $ 160 million. Then the Mayor of the city called the project "a step in the XXI century".
According to The New York Post, a couple of months after the issuance of the latest smartphone Lumia, it became obvious that all Lumia will have to be sent "on retirement". They will be replaced by iPhone.
The reason for this step was the failure of Microsoft to support the mobile operating system and specially developed applications for it.
It is noted that even at the height of the campaign to provide police with WP-smartphones, the project was criticized. In particular, the concern was a small share of the retired OS, as well as the fact that the decision to purchase was taken by a single person (responsible for information support in the police of New York).
