Updates for Windows are still a headache for both users and for Microsoft itself. Every month, with the release of regular patches, there are complaints of failures when installing them, and August was no exception. As it turned out, the update KB4034664 released this month caused a number of problems for Windows 7 users working with two monitors.
When installing the update, the second monitor stopped working, causing problems with rendering. The problems had to be fixed manually, following the instructions of Microsoft, until the company released an update KB4039884 in the beginning of the week, designed to improve the situation. However, this patch turned out to be problematic, because it caused a number of failures in Windows 7.
During the installation process, the update rolled back some updated files to older versions.
As a result, there were notifications about the availability in Windows Update of over 20 important and recommended updates, although they were already installed. After removing KB4039884, the problem disappears, but the second monitor stops working again, and you need to configure it manually.
According to Microsoft, the company is aware of two problems with the new patch, but none of them is related to the rollback of files to older versions. According to the manufacturer, the update can cause the WordPad to crash, and there are currently no ways to solve this problem. The fix for it will be released later.
