Uber suspected of corruption

The US Department of Justice is checking on the online Uber Taxi service, whose senior staff is suspected of corruption, The Hill reports citing the publication of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According to the publication, Uber managers could violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits US companies from bribing foreign officials in order to obtain permission to start or expand a business in a foreign market.

Currently, the Uber service operates on the territory of more than 70 countries around the world. It is not yet clear whether the US authorities are interested in the activities of Uber in which country or countries, writes WSJ.

It is noted that the audit is preliminary, and depending on its results, a decision on a full-scale investigation.



Uber press secretary confirmed that the company is cooperating with the US Ministry of Justice on the matter, but in the ministry to comment avoided.

The publication draws attention to the fact that the beginning of the investigation against Uber became known a day after the company officially announced the name of its new head. Director General of the Uber became Dara Khosrowshahi (Dara Khosroshahi), who had previously led the project online booking of travel services Expedia.
