Until the end of 2018 on the roads of Britain will appear small columns of unmanned trucks. As reported by the British government, tests of unmanned trucks will be carried out by a private company - the Laboratory of Transport Research (TRL).

The column during the tests will consist of a maximum of three trucks, without the driver there will be two of them - the second and third. The first truck heading the column will be with the driver.

The speed of the column's movement and braking will be set by the head car, and the direction of movement of all the trucks in the column will be regulated by the driver of the first truck.

As calculated in the Ministry of Transport of Britain, this scheme of truck traffic will help reduce emissions of exhaust gases and reduce fuel consumption by reducing air resistance for driven vehicles.

Tests will begin at special ranges, but by the end of 2018 will have to move to the motorway.

Tests of unmanned trucks moving in the convoy have already been carried out in a number of countries, including the USA, Germany and Japan.

Recently, Ford and German company Deutsche Post built an electric van StreetScooter Work XL.
