In the international anti-virus company Eset reported a huge number of cyber attacks aimed at users of torrents.
According to experts, hackers use file-sharing networks to deliver malicious software in two ways: compromising trusted torrent applications or masking malicious content in "distributions".
Since early 2016, the Eset telemetry system has registered about 15 million incidents in which malicious code downloads were associated with popular torrent applications and file-sharing services.
So, in 2016, attackers attacked users of the operating system Apple macOS, hacking the site of the torrent client Transmission. They reworked the application to include a virus component.
