Toyota, Intel, Ericsson, as well as a number of technological and automotive companies announced the formation of a consortium to create an infrastructure for the Big Data ecosystem used in connected cars. The consortium was named Automotive Edge Computing Consortium. It also includes DENSO Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), NTT DOCOMO, Toyota InfoTechnology Center Co.

The consortium intends to use "large data" to support new services, such as intelligent driving, creating maps with real-time data, as well as assisting in driving on the basis of cloud computing, stated in the statement Toyota.

It is expected that by 2025 the volume of traffic between vehicles and cloud services will reach 10 exabytes per month, which is about 10,000 times greater than the current traffic volume.

"This expected increase will require the creation of new architectures of the network and computing infrastructure to support distributed resources and the topology of data storage. The architectures will meet the applicable standards, which requires companies to cooperate on a local and global scale, "- noted in a press release Toyota.
