The national operator of the UK energy networks, the Irish company EirGrid, was attacked by hackers sponsored by a foreign government. This was reported by the Irish Independent.

According to the publication, the incident occurred in April this year. During the first attack, which lasted almost seven hours and was performed from IP addresses in Ghana and Bulgaria, attackers managed to access the Vodafone network used by EirGrid. Then the hackers carried out another attack, which compromised the company's routers located in Wales and Northern Ireland, thus gaining access to unencrypted communications.

According to the sources of the publication, the hacking was discovered in July this year, but it is still unknown whether cybercriminals succeeded in infecting the company's computer system with malicious software.

According to Vodafone and the National Center for Cybersecurity of Great Britain, this attack is the work of hackers financed by a foreign government. About which state we are talking about, it is not specified.

Recall, in July this year it became known about the cyber attack on energy networks as part of the national energy system of Great Britain. Attackers attacked the Irish Electricity Supply Board (ESB) to gain control over network management systems. It is assumed that hackers associated with the government of the Russian Federation are involved in the attack.
