IDC's quarterly statistics on the global market for tablet PCs indicate that it is continuing to decline. In the second quarter of 2017, manufacturers delivered 37.9 million tablets, which is 3.4% less than a year earlier.

In a situation where consumers postpone purchases, waiting for the release of new products in the second half of the year, the decline was recorded even in the segment of hybrid models with removable displays, which was considered the "savior" of the tablet market, experts say..

However, three of the top five tablet manufacturers managed to increase supplies and market share. The main factor that contributed to the rise, analysts called the decline in prices for devices.

However, experts noted that the growth may be temporary, because the update cycle for tablets is long enough and closer to personal computers than to smartphones. In addition, customers who buy the tablet for the first time today are already rare.

Another trend, which drew attention in IDC - the withdrawal from the market tablets of small brands and whitebox manufacturers, producing models without a specific brand name. The reason experts see in the increase in price competition from leading brands.

Characterizing the alignment of forces between vendors, experts noted the strengthening of Apple, which contributed to the recent release of new iPad models with a fairly low price. Against the backdrop of a recovery in demand, Apple tablet shipments grew 14.7% year-on-year to 11.4 million units, and the share jumped from 25.4% to 30.1%.

Samsung's shipments remained at last year's level - 6 million pieces, but as the market as a whole is shrinking, the vendor's share increased by 0.4%. , Up to 15.8%. Specialists note that the South Korean company is not only a leading manufacturer of traditional tablets, but also the third largest supplier of hybrid models with removable screens after Apple and Microsoft.

Huawei appears in the ranking of tablet manufacturers in third place. The same position is taken by the Chinese vendor in the smartphone market. Thanks to a wide range of inexpensive tablets with support for cellular communication, the company pushed out competitors such as Lenovo.

Last quarter, Huawei delivered 3 million tablets, improving the figure by 47.1% at once, as a result of which its market share climbed 2.7 percentage points and amounted to 8%.

Closer top-5 companies Amazon and Lenovo. Aggressive pricing strategy of the first, as well as a diverse range of products including children's models, ensured the growth of Amazon tablet supplies by almost 52%, to 2.4 million units, and share - by 2.3%. , Up to 6.4%. Lenovo's shipment and share fell to 2.2 (-14.6%) and 5.7% (-0.8%).
