Since the disconnection of the servers of the two largest underground trading platforms AlphaBay and Hansa in July this year, activity in five other large-scale markets of darknet has increased by 28%. These are the results of a study by Cyberint commissioned by the BBC.
Experts analyzed the activity of sites during the period from July 24 to July 31. As it turned out, now the title of the largest site for the sale of illegal goods went to the resource of the Dream Market. Currently, the site offers about 98 thousand. Product names - in the last week their number increased by 3,818 units.
Dream Market was launched in 2013 and today is one of the oldest in the Dark Web. Despite the increase in the number of products offered, the site's activity increased by only 3.9%. Experts explain this with rumors that the Dream Market could be compromised or taken under the control of the FBI and Europol.
According to the researchers, the second place was TradeRoute, offering counterfeit documents, illegal tobacco and alcohol. This is followed by the site Tochka (experts believe that the resource is of Russian origin), the list of offers grew by 28.1% (up to 2,390 titles) and the relatively new Wall Street Market platform - in just a week the number of products increased by 25.4% % To 2,216.
According to Europan's advisor Alan Woodward, the blocking of AlphaBay and Hansa did not bother the vendors, but it's not entirely clear whether it scared off buyers.
"Sellers believe they are in comparative safety - they do not use their real data, so they are difficult to track, even if the site goes under the control of [law enforcement] - but users need to provide a shipping address and the like information. That is why attention is focused on blocking and this is what law enforcement agencies intend to do, "Woodward said..
