Large-sized smartphones, also known as phallets or tablets, in a few years will capture more than half of the communicator market, predict experts Strategy Analytics.
According to the evaluation of the research company, in 2017, the share of devices with screens over 5.5 inches diagonally will account for 34% of the total number of smartphones sold in the world. By 2020, such models will occupy 47% of the market, and in 2022 - already 52%.
Specialists subdivide large-sized smartphones into standard phabbles, with a screen size of 5 to 5.99 inches, and super-fiblets, whose display reaches 6-6.99 inches diagonally. It is assumed that in 2017, these two categories will include 63% of all manufactured smartphones, and by the end of 2022 their share in the market will reach 80%.
Also, experts mentioned a new trend - the introduction of the so-called "frameless" design, in which the display occupies almost the entire front surface of the smartphone.
Such models are already available in the range of Samsung, LG and Xiaomi, and soon to this list should join Apple and other brands.
Earlier, colleagues from Counterpoint Technology Market Research submitted a forecast that in 2017 manufacturers will release more than 120 million "frameless" smartphones, and the share of such models in the market will reach almost 7%. In 2018, shipments of frameless machines will more than triple and exceed 360 million units.
