The American hacker, under the nickname Plore, discovered several ways of hacking the "smart" iP1 pistol, produced by the German company Armatix. A detailed report on the hacking of Plore weapons will be presented at the Defcon conference, which will be held in late July, and briefly about the hacker's research reports Wired.

As N + 1 reminds, sales of the iP1 pistol began in 2014. This is a caliber weapon. 22 is positioned as "safe" - the manufacturer claims that only its owner can shoot it. The essence of the technology consists in using a special wristwatch with the RFID chip, which are included in the delivery of iP1. The gun is brought into combat condition only if the watch is at a distance of no more than 35 centimeters from it. The mechanism of the pistol is controlled by a solenoid: after recognizing the owner's clock, the gun's electronics supplies voltage to the solenoid, which magnetizes the metal pin that blocks the trigger mechanism.

According to the hacker, he managed to find three ways to disrupt the pistol. The first one allows you to unlock weapons at a distance of up to 3.7 meters with two self-made transmitters worth about $ 20, placed next to the clock and a pistol. The second method involves the use of a "jammer" operating at 900 MHz, which prevents the weapon from exchanging data with the clock, which makes it impossible to unlock it. This "jammer" showed its effectiveness at a distance of up to 4.6 meters.

Finally, the third way suggested by the Plore hacker is to use a simple neodymium magnet that allows you to magnetize the locking pin and unlock the gun.

According to the hacker, he notified the manufacturer of the found vulnerabilities of the weapon, but he did not receive a reply. At the request of Wired in the company said that these vulnerabilities are difficult to use and without careful preliminary preparation to hack the gun is impossible.
