Last weekend, unidentified individuals broke into the Veritaseum platform and during the ICO (Initial Coin Offering) procedure, they stole tokens that sold $ 8.4 million.

ICO is a kind of analogue of the classic IPO (Initial Public Offering, initial public offering), with the difference that instead of shares, buyers buy tokens on the online platform.

The details of the incident were reported to Veritaseum by Reggie Middleton (Reggie Middleton) at the company's official Slack channel. According to him, hackers managed to steal VERI tokens during the ICO, which they immediately sold to other users. It's about a small number of tokens - only 0.07%, but in dollar terms the amount looks pretty impressive. According to Middleton, after the sale of the tokens, the cybercriminals earned $ 8.4 million in the crypto currency.

Initially, the funds settled in two Ethereum-purses, but then were transferred to other accounts. The stolen tokens belonged to Veritaseum, users did not incur financial losses, Middleton noted..

Over the past month, this is the fourth case of hacking crypto-currency services. Last week, hackers underwent CoinDash and Parity, and in the beginning of July hackers gained control over the Classic Ether Wallet purse for the Ethereum Classic (ETC) crypto currency..
