Sweden allowed the leakage of personal data of almost all its citizens

The leakage of personal data of almost all Swedish citizens was caused by the fault of the Swedish Transport Authority during the transfer of IBM personal data of all vehicle owners. The leak affected not only the private sector, but also vehicles belonging to the police and the army.

During the leak, the names, photos and addresses of millions of Swedish citizens became available, among them pilots of the Swedish Air Force, secret detachments, wanted people, citizens in the witness protection program, and the capacity of all roads, posts and many Another.

In 2015, the Transport Authority of Sweden entered into a contract with IBM for the maintenance of the IT infrastructure of the agency, including maintenance of databases and telecommunications networks.



After the conclusion of the contract, the department's employees downloaded the databases to IBM's servers in the cloud, and then emailed the entire contents of the database to their subscribers. In addition, all IBM employees have full access to the entire database of the Office.

The leak was discovered only in 2016, after which an official investigation was opened. In 2017 the head of the department Maria Agren (Maria Agren) was dismissed from her post. As punishment, she was fined in the amount of 70 thousand. Swedish kroner (approximately $ 8,5 thousand.
