The Segway MiniPro, which can be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, has proved to be of little protection from outside influences. Security specialists have found out that the PIN-code, allegedly preventing connection from an unauthorized device, does not oppose certain scenarios. As a result, hackers were able to intercept control of the gyroscope from a distance of 60 meters.
The attacker, in particular, was able to remotely turn off the Segway MiniPro, which threatens a rather unpleasant fall.
In addition, it turned out that you can not turn off the Bluetooth transmitter of a two-wheeled vehicle, that is, its owner can not protect himself in the most simple way.
Also, experts from IOActive found out that Segway does not check the source of the update for gyroscope, which is delivered "by air". Thus, attackers can "feed" the system to an unknown software assembly, which will lead to even more serious consequences.
Manufacturer Segway was notified of a security hole in December. Later she was patched up.
