Former managing engineer of Xbox Boyd Multerer shocked the audience at the conference of developers with the words about PC. The specialist said that the processor market is being adjusted for mobile platforms, and most companies change priorities not in favor of desktops. Initially, chip manufacturers worked on the speed of processors, neglecting power consumption. Muhlterer believes that innovation moves because of the shift from "clean" performance to economical energy consumption.
"The market is smartphones. Who cares about hundreds of millions of PCs now? Everything revolves around billions of smartphones, - said the engineer. - If manufacturers can reduce power consumption, this gives reason to compete with other chips.
The mobile industry assumes that with a sixteen-core processor, I open a resource-intensive application, and all the cores work with high performance. If I turn off the application - 14 cores are turned off and do not consume power ".
As a result, the ex-employee Xbox said that people use the PC for some applications, but the shift towards mobility has made computers a forgotten platform. This was due to the large size and low number of innovations in the PC market. Developers are slow to optimize programs, forcing users to upgrade or purchase new equipment.
