The famous Apple store on Fifth Avenue in New York, also known as the "glass cube", will be closed by the end of next year. This was reported by the resource MacMagazine.

The Apple store in New York is probably the most famous retail outlet of the company and one of the city's modern attractions. The huge glass cube topped itself with an entrance to an underground trade point with a total area of ??25,000 square feet (about 2,300 sq.. M). In the cube itself there is a wide spiral staircase and an elevator shaft.

The store was opened on May 19, 2006, in its creation the architectural bureau Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. Now the outlet is closed, and the glass cube is dismantled. Repair work in the building began as early as the beginning of the year, and now it became known that it is not necessary to expect an opening in the near future.

A completely new store will open doors only at the end of 2018 for the Christmas season. The store will be twice as large, and will also have a separate studio dedicated to the Beats brand, which will invite music industry representatives.

Meanwhile, Apple customers can use the temporary site, which will appear soon next to the construction site.

The last time Apple updated the store on Fifth Avenue in 2011. Initially, there were 90 glass panels, but six years ago the company made a reconstruction and it was only 15.
