Intel significantly increased the life cycle of its platforms for the Internet of things (IoT): from seven to fifteen years. This step the manufacturer expects to cause the location of companies designing and producing solutions for IoT, as well as to encourage the use of Intel platforms in this product.

According to industry representatives, extending the support period will require a significant increase in costs from Intel. How effective this method will be is unclear.

IoT is considered a promising growth engine for the industry, prompting companies such as Intel, Qualcomm and Microsoft to actively take over the market.

However, in recent years, the development of IoT has slowed, mainly because of the lack of comprehensive standards that guarantee compatibility at the platform and individual device level. In turn, this undermines the confidence of participants in the supply chain in the prospects for.

Returning to Intel, it should be mentioned that the new support period extends to all existing and future IoT platforms, including Xeon E3, Core, Pentium, Celeron and Atom processors. In the last quarter, sales of platforms for IoT brought Intel $ 721 million, which is 11% more than a year ago. At the same time, it is less than 5% of the company's revenue.
