In modern smartphones, several methods are used to authorize the user and confirm his identity. This can be a password, PIN, pattern, or fingerprint. These options are the most popular and most often used by people to protect their gadgets. There are also less common ways like the iris scanner. At the exhibition Mobile World Congress 2017 in Shanghai, Sony demonstrated a new way to verify the identity for Xperia smartphones.

Sony has developed its own system of 3D-recognition of faces. In the prototype presented, a special depth sensor is used from the Sony company SoftKinect and the face recognition software made by the Swiss company KeyLemon. Representatives of Sony assure that their technology is much safer in comparison with two-dimensional face recognition.

A new feature for 3D face recognition should appear in future Sony smartphones, but the company did not say anything about the timing.
