June 29 marks the 10th anniversary of the release of the original iPhone. In honor of the landmark date, former Apple executives came together to discuss the creation of a revolutionary device with a touch screen. The Wall Street Journal published a video in which Scott Forstall, Tony Fadell and Greg Christie told interesting details about the creation of the iPhone.

Former senior vice president of the department for the development of iPod Tony Fadell told how Steve Jobs first showed him a beta version of the sensor operating system. When he went into the demonstration room, he saw something similar to a table for ping-pong, on which the Mac interface was projected. Click on the screen with the whole hand. It was a multi-touch display the size of a tennis table.

Scott Forstall, who was responsible for the development of iOS, recalls that his team was given two weeks to come up with a new user interface. Early versions did not like Jobs, and he threatened to give the project to another group if they did not cope.

According to Greg Christie, they still managed to develop a design that Jobs liked. After the demonstration, he remained silent, did not gesticulate, did not ask questions. Then he asked me to show it again from the very beginning. Steve Jobs was really impressed with the result, but subsequent improvements took two more years.

In 2006, work on the interface was suspended. It was necessary to focus on an important component - the keyboard. If it was difficult to use, no one would buy an iPhone.

Forstall said that one of the options had several advantages. The keyboard could guess which word the user would type next. For example, when typing the letter "t", it increased the area of ??the key with "h", while the remaining buttons remained in the same size. Due to this it was easier to type such words as "the".

Also, former executives of the company discussed the creation of gestures for device management and the secrecy around the project, code-named "Purple".
