Six of the technological American companies of the country have allocated $ 258 million to overtake China and Japan in building the most powerful supercomputer. Funding for a period of three years will be AMD, Cray, HP, IBM, Intel and NVIDIA. Themselves these companies will invest in the project an additional 40% of the required amount of $ 430 million.
The companies are faced with the task of building a supercomputer with a performance of the order of one exaflops - one thousand petaflops or one billion billion operations on floating-point numbers.
This is the same computational power that the human brain has at the neural level, writes Engadget.
Such productivity is a thousand times higher than that of petaflops systems that appeared ten years ago. While the most powerful representatives of such supercomputers demonstrate a performance of 0.093 exaflops.
The project assumes that by 2021 it will be possible to build a system comparable to the exaflop supercomputer. China plans to build such a car in 2020.
