The European Commission (EC) is preparing to fine Google (now part of the Alphabet Holding) by more than 1 billion euros for abusing its dominant position in the search engine market. This is written by the publication MarketWatch with reference to the newspaper Financial Times, which, in turn, cites the data of two informed sources.

According to their information, Brussels is going to announce the first of three decisions regarding the work of Google in the European market. The fine is scheduled to be announced in the coming weeks. The investigation of the EC lasts from the end of 2010.

According to The Wall Street Journal, according to the European antimonopoly legislation, Google can be fined up to 10% of annual revenue. In 2016, the turnover of Alphabet exceeded $ 90 billion.

Since April 2015, the European Commission has also been conducting an antitrust investigation against Google related to the Android operating system. The purpose of the investigation is to find out whether the company entered into monopolistic agreements and abused a possible dominant position in the field of operating systems, applications and services for smartphones.
