Apple's mapping service is now much better than at launch in 2012, but Cupertino is still looking for ways to improve data collection in order to compete on an equal footing with Google Maps. As it became known, Apple intends to ask for help in improving Apple Maps from web users.

The project will work on the principle of Mechanical Turk - the "human cloud" service launched by Amazon in 2005. Here are exhibited mini-tasks that a person still does better PC: decrypt the audio recording, add tags to the photos, fill out the form. For many of them pay a few cents.

Apple to participate in the program, you need to download the mobile application TryRating, and then regularly answer questions about the accuracy of names, the correctness of addresses and the location of objects. For each task the freelancer will receive about 30 rubles (54 cents), however the total number of answers for each participant of the program should not exceed 600 per week.

Collecting information about how many people interpret the same requests, Apple intends to bring the results to an average value and thereby gradually improve the quality of their cards.

A similar principle is used by Google, which relies on the help of millions of casual users. In the mapping service of Google Maps, anyone can make their own edits, and if this change is approved by a large number of people, it will be displayed on the site as the main name.

At the end of last year, it was reported that another step in improving Apple Maps would be the use of the fleet of unmanned drones DJI, Aibotix and others to track the appearance of new road signs, road construction and other terrain changes. Data collected using aircraft will be sent to the development team of Apple Maps, which will be able to quickly update the application to provide users with up-to-date information.
