Analysts IDC drew attention to the trend of increasing popularity of the tablets and the rapid decline in sales of small smartphones. The researchers lead the South Korean edition of Yonhap.

According to IDC, in 2019 world shipments of smartphones with screen diagonals of 4 inches and less will fall to 5.4 million pieces from 18.8 million units in 2016 and 86.1 million in 2015. By 2020, there will be very few such devices on sale.

Consumers increasingly prefer larger smartphones, as they are convenient for playing games and watching videos. Experts expect that in 2017 the volume of the smartphone segment with displays ranging in size from 5 to 5.5 inches will increase to 593 million devices from 447 million units in 2015. In 2021 shipments of this electronics will be measured at 731 million units, and smartphones with displays from 5.5 to 6 inches will be released even more - 749 million copies.

Apple founder Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs) said that the phone should be small and fit in the hand, so for a long time the company produced only 3.5-inch iPhone. Now in Apple's assortment there are a lot of pills. Other manufacturers, including Samsung, LG and Huawei, release flagship smartphones with only large displays (from 5 inches).

According to the market observer referenced by Yonhap, the concept of smartphones is changing toward larger displays, and this trend has set Samsung Electronics its line of Galaxy Note. Smartphones Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 + have 5.8 and 6.2-inch screens.
