Approximately every fourth smartphone shipped last year was equipped with an AMOLED display. This means that about 370 million such panels were produced. Analysts at Digitimes Research forecast that this year shipments of AMOLED panels intended for smartphones will reach 452 million units, while the share of smartphones with such screens will increase from 24.3% to 27.6%.

Analysts are sure that growth will continue in the following years, so that in time, AMOLED screens will become the most common in smartphones. Already in 2021 AMOLED panels will ship 1,127 billion pieces, and the share of smartphones with the corresponding screens will increase to 53.0%.

In addition, AMOLED panels will dominate virtual reality headsets.

The confidence of Digitimes Research experts is based on the numerous advantages of AMOLED panels over liquid crystal and the development of AMOLED by Chinese manufacturers.
