The author of extortion software WannaCry, attacking hundreds of thousands of computers around the world, may be a hacker or hackers who fluently speak both English and Chinese. This conclusion was reached by Flashpoint specialists on the basis of the analysis of notices of the demand for redemption in 28 languages.

If you translate notifications in different languages ??(with the exception of English and Chinese text) using Google translator, the results will be identical by 95%, the researchers said.. In their opinion, the creators of WannaCry used the text in English as a template for translating into other languages, except Chinese. Although the English version demonstrates a good command of English, some errors suggest that the text was written not by a native native speaker.

On the other hand, WannaCry uses notifications in a simplified and traditional Chinese.

Both versions differ in volume and format from the English version and are clearly written by a person familiar with the nuances of the Chinese language. Some typos in words indicate that the text was entered exactly in Chinese, and was not translated via an online translator.

In addition, the text uses terms and words that are characteristic of different regions of China. For example, the word ?? ("week") is more often used in Southern China, and ?? ?? ("antivirus") - in the Central.
