The WWDC 2017 conference is approaching, at which Apple should present a major update of the software platform for the iPhone and iPad. Observers CultofMac conducted a study in which they tried to understand what the users expect from iOS 11.
Updated home screen.
With the exception of cosmetic changes, the iOS home screen has not changed much in 10 years. The company should take a closer look at the ideas in the jailbreak community, thanks to which there are such applications as Apex 2, which allow to group application icons and open them with gestures.
Live icons can become the standard for all applications. At the moment the application "Calendar" updates the icon in accordance with the current date and day of the week, and "Clock" shows the time. Apple could expand their functionality and make live icons available to all developers.
Configurable Control Point.
In iOS 10, the company has divided the Control Point into several pages, but this way of interaction leaves much to be desired. For example, to switch a song, you have to push the settings panel and scroll to the music player. When playing music, it should appear automatically.
The ability to remove, move and add buttons and switches in the iOS 11 Control Center would make managing iOS devices much more convenient.
Enhanced Keyboard.
Support for third-party keyboards in iOS 8. Solutions such as Swiftkey and Gboard quickly gained popularity. However, Apple restricts their use when entering protected text fields, such as passwords.
The company would do well to work on improving the built-in keyboard. First of all, you should be able to add a line with numbers at the top of the keyboard. This is especially true for large-format models Plus. The iPhone 6s and later smartphones support tactile response for certain actions - you can add it when typing on the keyboard.
Updated Notification Center.
Now each new notification is displayed separately. As a result, the user receives a crowded message stream, which is not very convenient to navigate. Grouping application notifications, as in iOS 9, would be much more convenient.
Jailbreak users can solve this problem using the Unify X utility.
Advanced Assistant Siri.
At the moment, the virtual assistant Siri is inferior to the capabilities of Google Assistant and other competitors. One of the main disadvantages is the dependency on the network connection. Voice Assistant in iOS 11 should be able to perform at least basic tasks in the offline mode. Also it is necessary to add support for text commands.
Optimize for iPad.
If Apple wants the iPad to become a full-fledged replacement for the computer, it should not just be a big iPhone. Now iOS interface is optimized for vertical orientation, but in most cases the tablet is used horizontally. For this reason, the space on the screen is spent irrationally.
Apple should think about developing the Finder application, ways to view and organize files, and how to move them throughout the system. Also, the company should support multiple audio channels.
Other Functions.
It's time to improve the applications "Photos" and "Camera". In the first case, there is not enough support for GIF images and more detailed information about the images.
Each time you go to the settings menu to configure the camera smartphone is not too convenient, so they should be transferred to the camera interface.
In iOS 10, you can shoot photos in RAW format, but you need to use third-party applications. Support RAW could appear in the native application "Camera".
Among other popular features, it is worth noting the ability to select the application by default, the protection of individual applications using the Touch ID, dark interface mode, cleaning the application cache, redesign Apple Music and group calls FaceTime.
