Android has strengthened the leadership in the global smartphone market. Such data are given in the study of the analytical company Gartner.
Global sales of Android smartphones in the first quarter of 2017 amounted to 327.2 million units compared to 292.7 million units a year earlier. As a result, the market share of the platform for this period increased by 2 percentage points - to 86.1%.
The growing dominance of Android researchers has been associated with the recognition of Chinese brands around the world and the emergence of high-end devices. In addition, the rise promotes the initiative Android Go, aimed at promoting low-cost devices.
According to Gartner, in January-March 2017 consumers purchased 52 million iPhones, as a result of which the share of the iOS platform was 13.7%. However, this figure is less than in the first quarter of 2016 (14.8%).
Other mobile operating systems account for only 0.2% of the market, compared to 1.1% a year earlier. According to the results of the first three months of 2017, only 821.2 thousand smartphones running on platforms other than Android and iOS were implemented worldwide.
