Taiwan PC manufacturer Asustek Computer decided to reduce the release of traditional desktop systems for consumers and focus on corporate-level models, monoblock PCs and high-end gaming computers that are manufactured under the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, DigiTimes reports..
In 2016, the deliveries of Asustek desktop computers dropped to a level of 1 million units, which was noted in 2013, while in 2014 and 2015, the figures exceeded 2 million devices. The decision on further reduction was made taking into account the weaker demand for desktops.
Meanwhile, research companies say that the world PC shipments in 2011 exceeded 360 million units, in 2016 they decreased to 260 million units. Particularly strongly negative trend manifested itself in the segment of desktop systems, the annual volume of supplies with which it is difficult to keep at a level above 100 million devices.
In the desktop category, small growth is demonstrated only by enterprise-class systems and game models, and the demand for traditional PCs with system blocks is weakened by competition from laptops. Sales of mini-PCs are also gradually decreasing - the decline is observed from the second half of 2016. As for monoblocks, although their sales in 2016 did not decrease, the volume of the segment remains small. It is expected that due to the lack of revolutionary novelties capable of spurring demand, in 2017 shipments of monoblock computers will remain within 10 million units.
