Google Chrome continues to strengthen its position in the global browser market, and the growth in the share of Microsoft Edge was the smallest in history. This is evidenced by the April statistics service NetMarketShare, tracking the activity of more than 160 million unique users, viewing over 40 thousand sites around the world.

As a result of the second spring month of 2017, Google Chrome is installed on 59% of computers used to access the Internet, which is 0.36 percentage points more compared to the figure of a month ago. Meanwhile, StatCounter reports that Chrome's share reached 63.45% against 62.81% in March.

A year ago - in April 2016 - Chrome for the first time outstripped Internet Explorer in popularity among web browsers for personal computers globally, fixing a market share of 41.71% against 36.61% of the opponent. In April 2017, the Internet Explorer presence was 18.4%.

Internet Explorer began to lose ground after that in early 2016, Microsoft stopped supporting all versions of Internet Explorer, except the last - the eleventh. Since that time, security updates and technical support are not provided for Internet Explorer 10 and older versions of Microsoft's web browser.

Now the American corporation promotes its other browser - Edge. However, its share in April 2017 was 5.62%, for the month having increased by 0.01 percentage points. So little increase in Edge was never, says the publication Neowin.

The top three most popular browsers for desktops and laptops are still Firefox, whose share for the month also increased by only 0.01 percentage points, to 11.8%. The Safari share was 3.44%, up 0.07 percentage points to March 2017.

According to the StatCounter service, which takes into account more than 15 billion web page views on 3 million sites, in April 2017, Firefox was used by 14.5% of computer owners with access to the Internet. Shares of Internet Explorer and Safari were 9% and 5.2% respectively.
