The American manufacturer of the network equipment Cisco has announced the next acquisition. This time the corporation buys a startup Viptela, specializing in developing cloud-based software-configurable global networks (SD-WAN).

The transaction value is 610 million dollars. Cisco will pay this amount out of its own funds, as well as in the form of rewards in the form of shares.

Viptela offers software used for cloud management of networks, which are deployed by companies in different geographical locations. The number of clients includes several of the largest companies in the version of Fortune.

In its history Viptela attracted about 110 million dollars of investments. According to the results of the last round of financing, the company was valued at 875 million dollars.

"Viptela technology is, first of all, a cloud, focused on ease and ease of implementation, as well as providing a rich set of opportunities and great coverage. These principles are needed by modern customers, "said Scott Harrell, senior vice president, product management, Cisco Enterprise Networking Group.

According to Cisco Vice President for Corporate Development Rob Salvagno, the joint efforts of the company will create a new generation of solutions for software-configurable global networks, and Cisco will be able to accelerate the transition to the software business model.

Prior to the purchase of Viptela, Cisco already had two SD-WAN technologies: a local Cisco IWAN and a clouded Cisco Meraki, complemented by unified threat management capabilities.

As noted by the IT publication TechCrunch, since 2015, Cisco has bought 19 companies. Among them - the manufacturer of corporate software AppDynamics (for 3.7 billion dollars) and developer of the cloud platform "Internet of things" Jasper Technologies (for 1.4 billion dollars).

At the moment, Cisco owns more than $ 70 billion, so the company can afford new acquisitions.

Close the acquisition of Viptela is planned in the second half of 2017. After that, the Viptela team will join the Cisco Enterprise Routing department of Networking and Security Business.

The application for Viptela did not change the quotes of Cisco. At the same time since the beginning of the year they increased by 12.4%, according to the publication MarketWatch.
