Apple does not want to disclose details of the tests of its unmanned vehicle. This follows from a petition for a change in the rules for compulsory publication of information on testing the autopilot received from the company's lawyers in the California Motor Vehicle Dept.. According to the content of the document, Apple invests "significant funds in the study of machine learning technologies" and does not want to publicize it ahead of time.

In this regard, Apple insists on changing the established reporting rules. Thus in Cupertino they hope not only to keep their own achievements in secret, but also to avoid unnecessary hype, provoked by thematic media.

In particular, the company's lawyers suggest that the agency refuse to publish information about failures that occurred during the testing of technology, and situations that led to the transfer of control to a living driver.

Such a request was prepared and filed immediately after the publication of photographs of the Lexus RX450h, on which Apple is testing its own autopilot system. All vehicles involved in testing are equipped with a special "body kit" for every second control of the situation on the road, including a panoramic camera, as well as proximity sensors and forced braking.
