The world's largest operator of data centers Equinix announced the closure of the transaction to acquire nearly three dozen data centers from the US telecommunications giant Verizon Communications.

Verizon has sold 29 data centers located in 15 cities in the US and Latin America, including New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Bogota and Sao Paulo. Equinix itself draws attention to the purchase of important facilities in Miami (links network access to the US and Latin America) and Virginia (serves state customers).

The deal, worth $ 3.6 billion, was planned to be closed by early June, but all formalities were completed a month earlier - on May 1.

About 250 employees and about 1,000 Verizon customers are switching to Equinix.

Even before signing an agreement with Verizon, Equinix had the largest number of data centers in the world than anyone. After the transaction, the company has 175 such sites, located in 43 countries.

Verizon became the owner of a large number of data centers after the purchase of Terremark Worldwide for 1.4 billion dollars in 2011. Now Verizon intends to focus on digital transformation services for corporate clients.
