Scientists of the Estonian University of Natural Sciences, the University of Turku and the University of Sao Paulo discovered unknown species of mosquitoes.

In Colombia and Costa Rica, five new insect species were found about two millimeters in length. They live in a tropical rain forest, and their abundance is very high due to the local wet and hot climate. These mosquitoes do not drink the blood of either human or other animals and do not spread diseases.

As the researchers note, mosquito larvae feed on decomposing organic matter and play an important role as a decomposer.

Earlier it was reported that scientists discovered a new species of giant turtles living in the Galapagos Islands. Given the newly discovered species, at the moment, the Galapagos Islands are inhabited by 11 species of giant turtles. Previously there were 15, but 4 species died out. Such turtles, mostly live in the east of the island of Santa Cruz.
