A New York University research team led by Jared Alann Frank has developed a specialized augmented reality system that can work on a regular tablet computer or smartphone. A new development uses a camera device to analyze the environment, which is projected by virtual objects. The operator in this case can select any object and, from the list of actions, give the robot a command for interaction.

The system is developed on the basis of Xcode from Apple. It is able to recognize robots and determine their location relative to the objects of the surrounding world. Then the system puts a coordinate grid on the space, to which all subsequent actions will be tied. Teams are processed using a miniature computer Raspberry Pi, and transmitted using Wi-Fi.

At the moment, the technology of controlling robots with the help of augmented reality was tested only in the laboratory, but in the near future, scientists plan to conduct tests in the conditions of construction and industrial production.
