The Council of the European Union has decided on the frequency range that will be used in the first stage of the development of mobile networks of the fifth generation (5G).
Experts decided to allocate a 700 MHz band. It will provide high data transfer rates and good coverage, including indoor.
European mobile operators will receive exclusive access to frequencies of 694-790 MHz by June 30, 2020. It is expected that by 2020, a large-scale deployment of 5G services on a commercial basis will begin.
It should be noted that the 700 MHz band is part of the wider band 470-790 MHz, which is now used by digital broadcasting systems and wireless microphones at various events.
Therefore, broadcast services will have priority at frequencies below 700 MHz - in the band 470-694 MHz - at least until 2030.
According to Cisco, by 2021, 5G services will account for 1.5% of total mobile data traffic, on average one 5G connection will generate 4.7 times more traffic than 4G connection, and 10.7 times more than connection 3G.
It is expected that all urban areas and major transport routes in Europe will be provided with a solid 5G-covering by 2025.
