Those who want to get a computer on Windows 10, but not on the x86 processor from Intel or AMD, will be able to fulfill their desire in the last quarter of the year. This was announced by the company Qualcomm, promising a laptop on Windows 10 with a cellular connection on the Snapdragon 835 processor.
So far, Windows 10 has only worked on x86-based processors. Last year, Qualcomm and Microsoft announced a partnership to create an ARM-computer on Windows 10. A thin and light device will be a tablet or laptop, there will be elements of smartphone design.
The device will always be connected to the cellular network via a high-speed modem. Wireless communication standards for Bluetooth 5 and possibly Wi-Gig, which are integrated into Snapdragon 835. The battery life can be higher than the performance of modern laptops due to the energy efficiency of Snapdragon 835, which is released in the process 10 nm. Playback of 4K video can be supported with the Adreno 540 GPU.
Large manufacturers of computers such devices have not yet announced, although Kickstarter collect money for a device with a screen of 8.2 inches. At first, there is no big demand, Qualcomm is going to test it, as past efforts to merge Windows and ARM in the form of Windows RT were unsuccessful.
The question remains about the number of compatible x86 applications on ARM, which was the main problem of Windows RT. Qualcomm promises that all x86 programs will be saved, but emulating the functionality of x86 can lead to slow application performance.
