How to free run macOS Sierra in a virtual machine

Advanced Mac users will find it useful to be able to run macOS or Mac OS X in a virtual machine separate from the primary operating system. Configure the virtual machine in the software environment of Apple as never before.

To begin with it is necessary to talk about what virtualization is and why it is needed. In fact, it is an opportunity to launch a second operating system with applications isolated from the main OS. This means that physically you do not install the computer and access the computer only when it is required.

Installing macOS on a virtual machine with Parallels Lite.

To install a virtual machine, you need a free Parallels Lite application and the macOS installer.

Step 1: Download Parallels Lite from the Mac App Store at this link. This is a free version of the popular Parallels virtualization solution.

Step 2: Download from the Mac App Store through the macOS installer. If you have a system image on a USB flash drive or external drive, skip this step.

Step 3: Start Parallels and specify "Only Linux, Free" in the plan selection window.

Step 4: Next, choose "Install Windows or another OS from a DVD or image".

Step 5: Parallels Lite will scan the hard disk for the presence of macOS installers and ISO images. Click "Install macOS" and "Continue". If the program did not detect the installer automatically, specify the path manually.

Step 6: Click "Continue" to create a disk image file.

Step 7: Give the virtual machine a name and specify the folder for storing the image.

Step 8: On the next screen, you can specify how much resources will be allocated to the virtual system, but it's better to skip this step and leave the default settings.

Step 9: The MacOS installer loads. In the window that appears, select "Install macOS" to perform a clean installation of the system.

Step 10: Follow the on-screen instructions. Upon completion, the usual macOS in Parallels Lite.

In principle, this is all that is necessary.

Now you can use on your Mac the second copy of macOS. So you can install absolutely any version of the platform, including beta versions.

The virtual system is turned on and off by running and exiting Parallels Lite, respectively.

For the purposes described in the article, a free version of Parallels Lite. A fully free alternative to installing Windows and Linux with all the features is VirtualBox.

When you install macOS in a virtual machine, you can restore data from a backup.
